DEVCOM conducts 'Photography Days sa Xavier Days 2010'
Cagayan de Oro City (30 November) -- The Development Communication Department of Xavier University, in collaboration with the Development Communication Society (DevCom Soc) and the Xavier University Center for Culture and Arts, will be conducting a five-day event bearing the name "Photography Days sa Xavier Days 2010" on December 1-5, 2010.
The proceeds of this activity will go to Gahum Scholarship Program of the DevCom Soc which aims to help intelligent indigenous high school students who cannot afford for their education and to promote photography as an art.
This endeavor has only been initiated this year and is hoped to become an annual event. Various activities have been prepared for this event.
The affair will feature Evans Yonson's Tubig, Water, Agua: A Photography of an Element" for the whole of the event.
The exhibit will open on December 1 at the Old Library Lobby of Xavier University.
The photographer, having been trained using film, does not adhere to editing and post processing photographs. He believes that a photograph should be seen in its most natural aspect through the play of light and shadow at the time the photograph was taken.
Online orders are also welcome.
A site will be launched on the same day as the opening.
The site, however, will contain more photographs than the actual exhibit.
Aside from the 60 photographs taken by Evans Yonson himself from all over the Philippines and Europe, the exhibit will also feature eight original compositions of Maestro Jed Balsamo and three short films of Barcelona-based Cagayan de Oro filmmaker, Christina Elloso.

Several other seminars and a contest will also be held including the "Basic Photography Seminar for High School Students" on December 2 at 2pm.
On December 3, the seminars bearing the title "Photography as a Research Instrument in the 21st Century" will be conducted in the morning and "Photograph + Monologue = A Story in Motion" in the afternoon while a photojournalism seminar-workshop with Froilan Gallardo will follow on December 4-5.
The seminars are open to all interested and photography enthusiasts for a reasonable registration fee.
All seminars will be held at the AVR1, Old Library at Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan. (PIA) [top]
