OWWA awards 2010 Model OFW Family on December 6

Tacloban City (November 30) -- The announcement and awarding of the 2010 Model OFW Family of the Philippines is scheduled on December 6, 2010, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Region 8 informed.

Mr. Eric Granada, officer in charge of the OWWA 8 informed that he is set to attend the awarding as Eastern Visayas has two nominees to the Search.

They are the Model OFW Family in Region 8 for the sea-based category, Capt. Rufino Reyes, Jr. and his family; and 2010 Model OFW Family of Region 8 for the land-based category, Mr. Alex Bello and his family.

The Department of Labor and Employment launched the 2010 Model OFW Family of the Year Award (MOFYA) in recognition of the outstanding achievement of overseas Filipino workers (OFW) and their families.

The award is in line with President Benigno Aquino III's thrust to strengthen the welfare and protection of what has been acclaimed as the country's "modern-day heroes".

The award's main objective is to recognize the outstanding achievements of OFWs and their families in the process of serving as role models and inspiration to the entire OFW community here and around the world.

The various categories of the Search include the regional winners, with the 17 regions having two MOFYA winners each, one from the land-based category and one from the sea-based category, or a total of 34 MOFYA regional winners.

There will be two national winners, one each from the land-based and sea-based categories chosen from among the regional winners.

Two more national awardees will be conferred Special Awards on Outstanding Achievement in Community Projects and Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship. (PIA 8 opt) [top]
