OWWA spearheads "OFW Family Day" on December 11

Manila (November 30) -- The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration in Eastern Visayas is once again spearheading the conduct of "OFW Family Day" in order to bring good cheers and promote camaraderie among Overseas Filipino Workers' families during the Holiday Season.

OWWA OIC Eric R. Granada informed that this year's OFW Family Day in Region 8 is set on December 11, 2010, from 10:00 o'clock in the morning to 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon at the Robinsons Place Tacloban.

The OFW Family Day, which is expected to be participated in by the OFWs and their love ones from Leyte, Samar and Biliran, is a day where the OFW families will be treated to a day of fun, games and entertainment.

Celebrated annually, the OWWA, through the Regional Offices, treats the OFWs and their families with and a day of fun and games and entertainment.

The Family Day varies from one region to another. The Family Day may include medical and dental mission, livelihood and entrepreneurial seminars, Santa Claus photo wall, story-telling for kids, gift-giving and raffle draws.

OFW families are gathered together during the Yuletide season to have an opportunity for quality time, strengthen ties, promote camaraderie and uphold family values.

The OFW Family Day is a fitting tribute to the modern day heroes, the OFWs by giving them a meaningful and memorable vacation with their loved ones.

The event is but a small way of recognizing their invaluable contribution to the economic survival and growth of the country.

It is the government's way of acknowledging their resilience and strength in overcoming obstacles for family solidarity despite the temporary separation as a consequence of overseas migration. (PIA 8) [top]
