All set for SK federation elections

Tacloban City (December 3) -- All is set for the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation elections in the municipal and city levels on December 3.

As such, all eyes and all ears are focused on the SK federation elections, which many believe, is more controversial than that of the Liga ng mga Barangay elections.

Many people believe that if left alone, the SK chairmen will be able to conduct their federation elections peacefully. It is the intervention of the matured people which makes the election controversial.

The President of the City or Municipal SK Federation will automatically sit in the local Sanggunian, and will represent the SK in the provincial federation elections.

DILG Secretary Jesse Robrero issued Memo Circular 2010-132 dated November 19, 2010 setting the conduct of the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation elections at all levels.

The municipal and city federation elections will be conducted on December 3, Friday. The Provincial Federation elections will be held on the following Friday, November 10. The SK National elections will be held on January 7, 2011.

Secretary Robredo said that the schedule was set after consultations and agreement with the Sangguniang Kabataan National Federation and the National Youth Commission.

In the same Memo, Secretary Robredo said that the National Youth Commission will act as the official observer during the actual conduct of the SK Federation elections at the local levels.

It is hoped that the elections for the SK city and municipal federations will successfully be implemented without any untoward incidents. (PIA 8) [top]
