Batangas City forms federation of environmental youth organizations

by Carlo P. Gonzaga

Calamba City (3 December) -- The city government of Batangas organized recently the federation of environmental youth organizations that will spearhead youth activities in environmental protection.

The federation elected a new set of officers in November as one of the activities in the observance of the National Environmnent Awareness Month hosted by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO).

The election was arranged by the officers of the Environmental Youth Organizations (EYO's) with members composed of highschool students from public and private schools. Jehrameel Hernandez was elected Environment Youth Organization Officer and Bill Angelou Catilo as assistant. The newly-elected officials led the youth assembly in the "Oath to Environment."

City ENRO Officer Oliver Gonzales greeted the youth, hoping that they would implement environmental projects. He said his office plans to launch competitions among schools as part of the project.

Part of the culminating activity of the observance of the National Environment Awareness Month was the awarding of winners in the photo and mascot design contest. Roger Manalo won first prize with his photo entry titled, "Inang Batangas" while Ronoier Jan M. Rosales of Batangas City East Elementary School emerged winner in the Mascot Design Contest.
