Iligan City (06 December) -- Despite heavy rains that caused delay of the day's culminating activity of the Drugs Prevention Month, the Iligan City Anti-Drugs abuse Council (ICADAC) managed to push through as scheduled.
Some 1,000 students from various schools, public and private, together with the out-of-school youth and other youth groups, joined the march rally from three (3) assembly points, this city, denouncing illegal use of drugs that would be a menace to society.
Upon reaching the convergence area at the Freedom Park-Iligan City Plaza, their torches were lighted.
They also brought placards, streamers with messages aimed at reaching out especially the youth who are the most vulnerable sector of the community, a cry to be drug-free and safeguard them from the perils of substance addiction.
A short program followed with no less than Director Edwin F. Layese of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Authority (PDEA) in region 10 gracing the event.
As the theme for this year goes, "Think Health, Not Drugs," the PDEA chief stressed the 3H, which young and adult alike should bear, for him it simply means Healthy Thinking, Healthy Body, and Healthy Environment, shall make a healthy community and a healthy nation.
The signing of commitment to making Iligan drug-free city was again renewed from among the members of the ICADAC and other entities as this has been done every year during the culminating day.
At the end of the program, the public witnessed the destruction of confiscated drugs and paraphernalia at the plaza, by burning the 327 grams of shabu worth P9,932.00, and 159 grams of marijuana sticks.
This was done by the executive judge, the Sangguniang Panglunsod member, the PDEA regional director, the Philippine National Police (PNP) representative from the crime laboratory, and other members of the ICADAC. (PIA LDN) [top]
