CHR-10 celebrates National Human Rights Consciousness Week
Cagayan de Oro City (6 December) -- Republic Act No. 9201 or the National Human Rights Consciousness Week (NHRW) Act of 2002 was passed in 2003 to enjoin all government agencies, including government-owned and controlled corporations, all levels of education/learning institutions, both public and private to celebrate the week through simple and appropriate ceremonies and activities to make the people aware of their basic human rights.
Hence, December 4 to 10 is declared as NHRW in the country.
The theme for this year's celebration, "Karapatang Pantao: Kilalanin, Tuparin at Pagyamanin," enjoins every individual to recognize and promote human rights.
Government employees are directed to actively participate in the activities to be undertaken at the national, regional, provincial and agency levels.
In Region 10 the activities include: Alay Tulak Lakad para sa may Kapansanan at Freedom Kiosk to Capitol Grounds, December 3, 6pm to 8pm; and Dinner Campaign on Freedom of Information spearheaded by the Office of the Representatives Erin Tanada;
Fly your Kite for Climate Justice on December 5, 4pm at Rotonda;
On December 6, National Recitation of Panata sa Karapatang Pantao at Regional Line Agencies; and Convocation: "Labor/Rights as Human Rights at DOLE 10 office;
Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (HR-IHL) Training Seminar on the Protective Writs and Enforced Disappearance will be on December 7-9 at the army's Fourth Infantry Division while Orientation Seminar on Laws for Advancement of Women (OSLAW) will be conducted at PNP-10 on December 9.
