PIA DG Fabia underscores vital role of information officers
San Jose, Antique (6 December) -- Atty. Jose Fabia, Director General of Philippine Information Agency underscored the vital role of information officers for the development of the country.
Speaking before a hundred of Information Officers in Region 6 during their year end assembly at Westown, Hotel in Iloilo City, DG Atty. Fabia said that IOs play a significant role in communicating the programs of government so that it reaches the people in the countryside and urban centers.
With advance information technology, we need to promote citizen journalism so that the voice of the people can be heard or they can give feedback if the programs of government are responsive to their needs or otherwise, said Atty. Fabia.
As Information Officers, Fabia emphasized, the challenge to make bureaucracy work for the people, so that Filipinos will take pride and love their country.
Meanwhile, to further give boost to performance of information officers of the local government units, Atty. Ma, Janet C. Mesa, Regional Director of PIA Region 6 said that the Department of Interior and Local Government has issued Memorandum Order urging local chief executives of provinces, cities and municipalities to designate their information officers.
The year end conference of information officers also featured the awarding of Best Performing Information Officers in Region 6 where Gladdys A. Gallano of National Food Authority in Antique is one of the awardees. Other awardees include three for each of the provinces of Iloilo, Capiz and Negros Occidental and one from Aklan and Guimaras.
