Gensan to open animated Christmas for "Generals"
General Santos City (December 6) -- The celebration of Christmas this year for the generals will be much different from that of the previous years as the City Government of General Santos opens Monday (December 6) its long month-festivity dubbed as "Pasko sa Gensan 2010," with the theme "Ani' mi sa Gensan, Anime' ang Paskuhan."
City Mayor Darlene Antonino-Custodio is inviting all generals to witness and participate in the "animated opening ceremonies" at the Carlos P. Garcia Freedom Park Grand Stand at 6:00 pm.
The concept of this year's Christmas celebration is attributed to the popularity among young and old alike of anime' characters, which is "an abbreviation of the word animation, referring to cartoon animation," she said.
Starting from the first day of this month, residents here as well as local tourists are flocking the Plaza Heneral Santos where the once-semi lighted park now becomes fully decorated with colorful, attractive blinkers and Christmas decors.
Cheri Lou Marcelo, a student from Mindanao Polytechnic College said the colorful lights hanging in the trees makes the plaza enticing especially to night church goers.
"I used to pass by the plaza after church every Sunday because of the relaxing ambiance and the soft music from the radio. But last night was different the whole place was very colorful and they have this big screen attached to the city hall building showing an animated movie. I really love the concept. I'm a big anime' fan," she said in the vernacular. (pgfruylan/PIA-SarGen) [top]
