Pagadian City (Dec. 09) -- Department of Health Secretary Enrique T. Ona has started to make rounds in their nationwide campaign "Kontra Paputok" in the coming Christmas and New Year's revelry.
Sec. Ona initially focused his campaign to elementary students and discussed with them the effects of using or playing with fireworks or firecrackers during this hiloday season. He made the visits to schools to personally advice children to refrain from using firecrackers bringing with him the slogan "Walang Bata Magpaputok" depicting an injured hand. DOH statistics reveal that most injuries occur in the 5 - 10 year age group.
The health chief also cited that injuries to children happen because firecrackers and other forms of pyrotechnics are available at community retail stores and even street vendors.
DOH stressed that no irresponsible firecrackers or any pyrotechnics use will result to no injury, or even death.
DOH officials also urged parents to refrain and advice their children not to play with firecrackers and other powerful pyrotechnics. (pia9/zds) [top]
