Forum on laws against child trafficking vital, says Mayor Co
Pagadian City (December 9) -- The stakeholders' forum on the enacted laws against child trafficking conducted by the Philippine Against Child Trafficking (PACT), Zamboanga del Sur chapter, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), provincial office and City DSWD is vital in promoting awareness in the prevention of the trafficking in persons.
This was disclosed by Mayor Samuel S. Co in a message read by city councilor Arnold Gavenia at the forum held at Springland Resort on Thursday.
Co said providing information to stakeholders on R.A. 9208 otherwise known as Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, along with the enforcement of the provision of protection order for Victims of Violence Against Women and Children as stipulated in RA 9262 are valuable and becomes even more urgent.
These women and children's welfare efforts, Co said must not be viewed as an isolated task of certain department and organizations, but rather, as an integral part of community efforts.
Co challenged everyone to take their share for the realization of their common vision and mission.
"We will save and protect them from abuse. This is a challenge for all of us. A challenge we must achieve; because we will and we can!" Co said.
City Social Welfare Officer Abudulgani Pagayao said the forum was conducted to prevent and protect women and children from trafficking and assist the victims, with full respect for their human rights.
Pagayao thanked the PACT for spearheading the activity.
The forum was attended by PACT convenor Rev. Diosdado Marques, PACT chairperson Rev. Michael E. Gubot, and other stakeholders. (PIA9-ZS/GCC) [top]
