RP attends ASEAN+China information meeting in Beijing
Manila (13 September) -- The Philippines will be represented in the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ministers Responsible for Information + China meeting on September 15 in Beijing.
In a radio interview over the weekend, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Herminio Coloma said there is a regular meeting of the ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Information (AMRI) and he is a part of it.
He added that his September 15 trip to China has nothing to do with the August 23 hostage crisis where eight Hong Kong tourists were killed and several others were wounded.
The PCOO Secretary, however, did not rule out the possibility that the hostage fiasco could also be discussed even if it is not on the agenda.
He said the invitation to participate on the ministerial meeting has long been extended to the Philippines through the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Secretary Coloma said other activities will be held in Shanghai but he will not attend these because he has a lot of work waiting for him in Manila.
The PCOO Secretary will be accompanied by PIA Director General, Undersecretary Jose Fabia together with 2 PIA and POS staff in charge of ASEAN.
The ASEAN-China Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Information and Media is being held in an effort to enhance cooperation in the field of information.
The aim of the meeting is to step up information and media cooperation among ASEAN and China.
Information cooperation schemes between ASEAN and China had been proceeding well and needed to be enhanced. An example was the opening of Indonesia's Antara news agency office in Beijing and of China's Xinhua in Jakarta. (PIA 8) [top]
