By Freddie G. Lazaro

Vigan City (April 29) -- Aware of the region’s potential as an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) hub in Northern Luzon, the Ilocos – Pangasinan Regional Development Council (RDC) initiated moves to facilitate ICT programs by tapping the existing human resources, infrastructure and transportation systems and telecommunication facilities that were ideal for related investments and business opportunities.

Led by the Deparment of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Region 1 and the Lorma Colleges, which represent the government and private sector respectively, the RDC thru its ICT committee intends to spur the region’s ICT capabilities by enjoining major cities and towns in the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union and Pangasinan.

Ilocos Sur Governor Deogracias Victor "DV" B. Savellano, who is the incumbent RDC Chairman, said, "this is a comprehensive program that will ultimately boost education and manpower development, employment and income, trade and commerce, travel and tourism and local administration and governance."

Part of the committee’s activities is the conduct of investment forum that enables eight cities and 2 promising towns in Region One to showcase their capabilities as premier ICT destinations in the country. Its objective in forging alliances and establishing a network for business, employment and income opportunities through ICT.

The event promoted the region’s competitiveness in its competent workforce, technology, infrastructure and educational institutions.
