Region 02 ASEAN Quiz champion to visit Singapore
Tuguegarao City (6 August) -- Jan Carl A. Camayang of Cagayan National High School, who topped this year's Regional ASEAN Quiz and will represent Region 02 in the national level, will have a chance to visit ASEAN countries particularly Singapore.
This was hinted by Regional Director Benito S. Tumamao of the Department of Education 02 in his message in the opening of the ASEAN Quiz, Wednesday, August 5 at the DepEd regional office here.
The DepEd chief stressed the need to learn the culture and tradition and to analyze the situation of each country. "You come here not only join the competition but more importantly to understand and analyze the situation of each country," he added.
Tumamao has sought the assistance of the Department of Foreign Affairs in the processing of the passport and other documents needed by the winner.
Tumamao also encouraged the coaches and teachers to visit the ASEAN countries saying that teachers can better impart their lessons using their actual experiences as guide. "There's no substitute for actual experiences", he added.
Other winners in the competition were Janina Christine A. Talaro of Nueva Vizcaya General Comprehensive High School (NVGHS), second place and Iris Faye Villanueva of Victoria High School, Aglipay, Quirino, third place.
The ASEAN Quiz which was participated by fourth year high school students was conducted by the Department of Education, Department of Foreign Affairs and Philippine Information Agency.
The 4th ASEAN Quiz which will be held on November 18-22 will be hosted by the Philippines and will be participated by the ten (10) ASEAN member countries: Cambodia, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines.
It will be conducted by the National Broadcasting Network in partnership with the Department of Education, Department of Foreign Affairs, Office of the Press Secretary, and the Philippine Information Agency.
The ASEAN Quiz Bee is a bi-annual project of the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information (COCI) that aims to foster the spirit of healthy competition among ASEAN youth in a friendly quiz game that exposes them to ASEAN cultural, political, economic and social information. (PIA 02) [top]
