LAGAWE,Ifugao (2 October) -- For greater transparency and for a more improved accounting and budgeting system, the municipalities of Mayoyao, and Kiangan were the first to join the Electronic New Government Accounting System (e-NGAS) and have already installed the program developed by the Commission on Audit (COA) into their accounting system.
Three more local government units in this province- the provincial Government, and Lagawe and Lamut, are currently attending e-NGAS seminar being conducted by the Regional Government Accounting Finance and Management Information System (RGAFMIS). Others are expected to follow suit.
Hector Cortes, State Auditor 1V of the Commission on Audit (COA) Regional Office disclosed that the system permeates transparency in the financial status of the LGUs. The e-NGAS seminar is necessary prior to the installation of the COA-developed program.
Cortes said the computerization of accounting systems of offices saves time and manpower. He added that any discrepancies in financial statements of offices can also be easily detected.
Ignacio Nanam, Audit Team Leader of COA Ifugao is hopeful that not only the accounting and budget system be computerized in the province but even the real property tax. With these it would be easier to go after delinquent tax payers, he said. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
