ILAGAN, Isabela (2 October) -- The SP Committee on Health here uncovered a measly 26-percent or 3.35 million of the 12.8 million fund appropriated for drugs and medical supplies from January 1 to July 31 only expended, causing scarcity in medicines in at least seven government-run hospitals in Isabela.
Provincial Health Board committee chair SP Menber Josephine Baggao-Borromeo said that at least 9.44 million were not spent by the provincial government since the first semester.
"With barely four months left for this year, more than half of the funds should have been disbursed to meet the needs of hospital patients", SP Borromeo said. Her committee wants to probe why there was such problem in the health sector and later recommend to SP plenary session to solve the problem.
Provincial General Services Officer Alfredo Mendoza noted in the January 1 to July 31 disbursements that only P1.96 million (out of the 3.28 million allotment) was spent for the Faustino Dy hospital in Ilagan; P310, 530 (out of the 1.68 million budget) for Cauayan District Hospital in Cauayan City; and P356, 159 (out of the 1.68 million budget) for Manual A. Roxas District Hospital in Roxas town was disbursed.
For Milagros District Hospital, only P307, 936 (out of the P1.19 million allotment) was spent; P360, 746 (out of the 1.14 million budget) was spent in Echague District Hospital; only P21, 068 (out of the P178, 932 budget) was used for Palanan Station Hospital; and only P31, 382 (out of the P318, 617) was disbursed for San Mariano Hospital.
SP Borromeo said that her committee will continue series of investigation on the recurring problem in Isabela hospitals and recommend to the provincial board measures to solve the hospital problems in the province. (PIA-Isabela) [top]
