Luzon power now 85% restored
Manila (2 October) -- The National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) reported that as of 1 p.m. today, power restoration of the Luzon grid was placed at 85% equivalent to a load of 4,780 megawatts (MW).
The state utility firm added that power in Daraga and Legaspi City in Albay has been restored around 12:45 this afternoon following the dispatch of power to the Albay Electric Cooperative from the Tiwi Geothermal Plant of the National Power Corporation (NPC).
The Dasmariņas-Lakeview 115 kilovolt line was likewise restored at around 7 p.m. last night, bringing in power to the town of General Mariano Alvarez in Cavite.
TransCo expects to provide additional power to other parts of Meralco's Cavite franchise area with the energization of the Dasmariņas-Tagaytay and the Dasmariņas-Ternate lines within the day. These lines serve the upper and lower towns of Cavite , respectively.
On the other hand, the Dasmariņas-Rosario line, which serves the towns of Rosario and General Trias and the Economic Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) in Cavite and which was also the hardest hit by the typhoon in the area with some 57 poles affected, is expected to be restored on October 4.
In Quezon province and the rest of the Bicol region, TransCo is closely coordinating with the National Power Corporation (NPC) and the various electric cooperatives to fast-track restoration efforts.
TransCo is expecting the start-up of additional units in the Tiwi Geothermal Plant to light up the rest of the Bicol region. However, in Sorsogon province where more than 60 TransCo wooden poles need to be repaired, restoration works are estimated to be completed by October 18.
In Quezon province, 53% of its average daily load of 38MW is already being served, specifically in 80% of Quezon Electric Cooperative II's franchise area which covers Infanta and nearby towns.
After its clearing operations, TransCo will be installing emergency restoration system (ERS) structures or temporary tower structures to connect the Tayabas substation in Quezon to the Labo Substation in Camarines Norte, so as to bring in more power to Quezon and the Bicol Region.
