TESDA's center of excellence approved

Iloilo City (3 October) -- The Regional Development Council has approved the New Lucena Polytechnic College (NLPC) in New Lucena, Iloilo as TESDA's Center of Excellence in Modern Manufacturing Technology (CEMMT). As such it will be equipped with computer numerically controlled (CNC) production machines.

According to TESDA, mass production in acceptable standards and quality is not achievable with conventional manufacturing and today's modern industries and customers require extreme machining tolerances for manufacturing goods in mass quantities.

In support of industry requirements for modernization in the regions, TESDA trough its TESDP Project aims to develop seven of its directly supervised institutions and centers in the country into a Center of Excellence in modern manufacturing technology (CEMMT).

One of its CEMMT projects will be transferred from Cagayan de Oro to the Province of Iloilo since Region 10 is already a recipient of several TESDA projects.

The Social Development Committee that sponsored the resolution for the project said it is within the regional thrust as contained in the Western Visayas Regional Development Plan 2005-2010 specifically the development of the human resources of the region that is essential to the industry demand. It pointed out that developing the New Lucena Polytechnic College as a Center of will not only benefit the Province of Iloilo but also other provinces in Panay and the island province of Guimaras.

Once completed, total project is estimated to be Php 115,342,858 that will come from the Austrian Government through a soft loan and grant and equity of Php 8.2 million from the New Lucena Polytechnic College. (PIA 6) [top]
