DOST-SEI scholarships up for grabs

Negros Occidental (4 October) -- The Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) is offering scholarships in baccalaureate degree programs to those who want to pursue priority fields of study in the Sciences, Mathematics and Engineering.

Scholarship programs are offered in accordance with R.A. 7687. Applicants’ family socio-economic statue should not exceed the set values of the identified indicators and should accomplish the Household Information Questionnaire form from their nearest DOST Provincial Offices.

Qualified for the scholarships are high school graduates belonging to the top 5 percent of the graduating class. Those who graduated from DOST-SEI identified or DepEd-recognized science high schools are also qualified for the scholarships. Applicants should be Filipino citizens who are residents of the municipality for at least four years, in good health and of good moral character aside from qualifying on the S&T Scholarship Examination.

The scholarship privileges include: tuition and other school fees not to exceed P4,500/sem/term, Book Allowance at P3,000/academic year, Monthly Living Allowance for a 10-11 month duration or P3,000, outright grant for prescribed Military Science/Physical Education uniform of P500.00 for the first sem/term for first year only. Also, the DOST-SEI will provide free transportation for one economy-class round trip fare between permanent residence and place of study in reimbursement basis as well as group health and accident insurance and additional privileges if required in the curriculum to enroll during summer.

The deadline for filing of application is on November 10, 2006 and the examinations will be on December 3, 2006.
