PGMA orders NDCC to boost up disaster preparedness

Manila (4 October) -- “President Arroyo has directed the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) to work closely with the Local Government Units (LGUs) in expanding appropriate disaster response drills and creating rescue teams in all the landslide and flashflood-prone barangays in the country.”
So said Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye in line with the government’s resolve to boost up its the disaster preparedness effort.
Bunye said the President was encouraged by the success of the national earthquake drills and wants the same levels of community readiness in the case of landslides and flashfloods spawned by typhoons and heavy rains.
“We have to be prepared at all times to protect and save lives and properties,” he added.
Meanwhile, the education department is now bringing more schools into the loops of preparedness to equip students with the right information on what to do during disaster occurrences. (PIA—MMIO) [top]
