Cagayan de Oro City (4 October) -- In order for fisherfolks to sustain their livelihood by protecting the marine eco-system, Councilor Annie Daba, chair of the committee on agriculture and fisheries surveyed the mangrove areas in barangays Gusa and Cugman, this city.

Together with Councilor Daba during the massive mangrove baseline survey in the two coastal areas are personnel from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-10 and the City Agricultural Productivity Office.

The lady councilor said the conduct of the survey aims to raise the level of environmental awareness among fishermen and coastal residents along mangrove preservation and protection.

Part of the activities conducted by the technical working group of DENR-10 included on-site interviews and survey to determine the socio-economic profile of residents in the covered barangays.

The survey will also determine the actual perimeter and boundaries; identification of species of plants, trees, herbs, mangrove and other flora and fauna found within the area. (City Information Office/RAGCOM) [top]
