General Santos City (5 October) -- Another feats have been scored by the state-owned firm National Transmission Corporation (TransCo) when it inaugurated the Nuling Substation in Crossing Simuay along with several other projects in Sultan Kudarat town, Maguindanao province over the weekend.
The projects consisted of the expanded Nuling Substation Control House; constructions of power house, lineman's quarter, security sentry posts; beautification and site development.
"The projects are a concrete manifestation that Nuling Substation remains at par in terms of technical development complementing the power requirements of the area it serves," said TRANSCO department manager Manuel Hamoy Jr.
Engr. Elmo Batislaong, Tacurong branch manager, stressed that the old control room was already congested thus the installation of control panels was needed.
He said the battery room also required expansion because of the installation of new sets of battery banks. On top of these, additional panels were also needed to upgrade network protections.
"These requirements necessitated the expansion of the old control house to accommodate all the additional technical hardware, ensuring the steady supply of reliable and quality power transmission within the branch's area of responsibility (AOR)," Engr. Batislaong explained.
The branch's AOR includes the provinces of Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao and North Cotabato.
Meanwhile the lineman's quarter, according to Engr. Fermin Manos, principal engineer A of Operation, Tacurong branch serves as line personnel's "temporary home away from home."
He said with the construction of the quarters, "line personnel assigned in Nuling Substation can readily respond to power interruptions at the soonest possible time since they are now housed in one area."
Engr. Leonardo Jalandoni, IV, officer-in-charge of Nuling Substation also explained that the sentry posts would ensure the security of the Substation from any attack from lawless elements operating in the area.
"The beautification and site development of Nuling Substation is a statement that our highly technical operations are balanced with aesthetic standards," he quipped.
Other personalities present during the inauguration also included town mayor Datu Tocao Mastura, Solomon Badoy, president of the Philippine Fruit Vegetables Industries, Inc.; and the officials of TRANSCO-District 6, Maguindanao Electric Cooperative, Inc. (MAGELCO), and Cotabato Light and Power Company, Inc. (COLIGHT). (with Belinda Canlas, Transco) [top]
