OK Bikol marks 10th year

by IT Cabanes

Legazpi City (6 October) -- The Orgullo Kan Bikol (OK) Regional Trade Fair sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) marks its 10th year as it takes center stage on October 19-22, 2006 at the SM Megamall, in Mandaluyong City.

Orgullo kan Bikol Trade Fair has now evolved into OK Bikol, according to DTI Bicol regional director Jocelyn L.B. Blanco. "This year’s OK Bikol staging marks a decade of promoting the distinct products of the Bicol region and providing substantial gains for Bicolano small and medium enterprises."

Blanco said a decade of service to Bicolanos with the staging of OK Bikol Trade Fair will be significant. "For one, it will focus on the One-Town-One-Product (OTOP) program of DTI."

"OTOP products will be showcased in a "special setting" and will highlight the convergence efforts of the local government units (LGUs), line departments and private sector" she pointed out.

Moreover, Blanco bared, the officers of the newly organized OK Bikol Association, Inc., an association of Bicolano manufacturers, that will eventually become the frontrunners of Orgullo kan Bikol Regional Trade Fair, will be inducted into office as one of the highlights of the opening program.

For this year, some 80 manufacturers will join the OK Bikol fair. The participants are mostly beneficiaries of full-cycle business assistance under the National SME Development Agenda being implemented by the DTI, in collaboration with other line agencies and the private sector.

Assistance comes in the form of design and packaging, merchandising, costing and pricing, negotiating with buyers as well as financing for costs of equipment upgrading, Blanco said.

The other sponsors of Orgullo kan Bikol Regional Trade Fair 2006 include the Office of Albay (1st district) Congressman Edcel C. Lagman, PHILEXPORT-Bicol, Center for International Trade Exposition and Missions (CITEM) and the Advocate of Philippine Fair Trade, Inc. (APFTI). (DTI/PIA) [top]
