Local businessmen nominate three LGUs as most business-friendly
Tacloban City (October 7) -– The Provincial Government of Leyte, the Municipality of Baybay and the Municipality of Tanauan, both in Leyte have been nominated by the local chamber of commerce and industry as business-friendly local government units.
The nomination of the Province of Leyte , the Municipality of Baybay and the Municipality of Tanauan , by the Leyte Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is a recognition of the sustained efforts of the mentioned local government units to make the environment in the respective areas conducive to doing business, Mr. Uy intimated.
This is a recognition of the partnership between the government and the private sector in the development of a locality, Mr. Uy added. While the private sector provides the investments, the government must provide the proper atmosphere in terms of policies, ordinances and directives.
Mr. Orlando Uy said that the most business-friendly LGU award is primarily based on the slogan, “What’s Good for the Citizenry is Good for Business,” which represents a framework to achieve a continuous improvement of local government services, benefiting the business community and the citizenry.
A project of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the award recognizes municipalities, cities and provinces for their efforts to institute good governance, such as implementing sound and business-friendly procedures that promote trade and investment; ensuring accountability, transparency and efficiency in the day-to-day operations especially in issuing business permits, building occupancy permits and real-property documents; and promoting competitiveness that improves the quality of life and encourages entrepreneurship.
Mr. Uy said that the interview of the finalists is now underway and the awarding of the winners will be during the closing program of the 32nd Philippine Business Conference with no less than Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as the Guest of Honor. (PIA 8) [top]
