TABUK, Kalinga (9 October) -- Kalinga products is expected to capture the preference of native items lovers in the Impakabsat at the Festival Mall, Phil-Invest Alabang, next month.
Noryn Bagano of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Kalinga said local producers have confirmed participation to the annual regional trade fair.organized by DTI-CAR.
The annual Impakabsat, which showcases native products from the region is part of the agency's marketing program for local producers, Bagano said. Last year, it was held at SM Mega Mall.
This is in line with the government's program of addressing poverty in the countryside by providing income opportunities to micro-level entrepreneurs, where most of the local producers and traders belong.
Micro-level entrepreneurs are those with capital requirement of less than P3M.
Since it started in 1991, Impakabsat, a pet project of then DTI-CAR Regional Director Armando Galimba, has tremendously contributed to the competitive quality of Cordillera indigenous products.
Aside from product quality, the Impakabsat has also opened market linkages for local producers who used to book orders after each trade fair.
In preparation to the November trade fair, DTI-CAR held a product development workshop in Ifugao, where producers are trained to produce a Cordillera proto-type design on woven items.
DTI-Kalinga is appealing for the usual support of local officials in the form of financial assistance to participating exhibitors to defray their incidental expenses to the fair. (PIA-Kalinga) [top]
