Ilocos Sur yields abundant rice
Vigan City, Ilocos Sur (9 October) -- The province of Ilocos Sur which suffered no harsh damages from the several typhoons that visited the country is bursting with good harvests of rice.
According to the Department of Agriculture Provincial Officer Mr Teofilo Quintal, the rains that the province received from the typhoons produced bountiful rice this season. As early as September many farmers have started selling their produce. The National Food Authority announced that it is buying rice from P10.25 per kilo through its ware houses in Sugpon, Candon City, Cabugao, Santa Maria and Tagudin.
Mr Quintal said that although this season's harvest is much more that the previous ones, farmers and his office must not stay satisfied but work more, study more, for more improvements in the harvest of other crops in the province such as corn, tobacco, and vegetables. (PIA) [top]
