Samar school wins inter-school general info contest

Catbalogan, Samar (9 October) -- The tides have turned in the lastest Genreral Information Quiz contest featured in the Ubanon-Boao of the Holy Rosary in Catbalogan, Samar.
Last night, a four-member team of Samar National School bested three other high school teams for the 'best informed' gaining some 38 points.
Lucille Jadulco, Francis Calinao, Rona Francia Palines and Royce Corrige of SNS coached by Edna Calvadores received some three thousand pesos as cash prize and a trophy. Hermana Mayor Alice Arcales of Maqueda Bay Hotel sponsored the prizes.
Running second with 33 points was the Samar college team composed of Hector Bailey Calumpiano, Elaine Joyce Limbaga, Jarbel Superable and Jairus Chad Rosales. They also got two thousand pesos and trophy.
St. Mary's College of Catbalogan that reigned champion in the last year's Ubanon-Boao Information Contest and in the General Information contest during the most recent Catbalogan Fiesta slipped to a mere third place. The team is composed of Cheska Maric Geli, Rexson Yamson, Seville Meyer Cabael and Jonathan Isanan received a trophy and a cash prize of one thousand pesos.
Samar State University (SSU) which figured on the lead during the first few questions slowly slipped to the last place.
Reynaldo Ayllon, this year's Chairman described the event as an annual undertaking greatly anticipated because of its socio-civic and educational relevance.
Professor Meldrito Valles of SSU co-chaired the Inter-School General Information Contest who announced that other cultural and literal-musical contests are also held nightly in celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary. (PIA-Samar) [top]
