Surigao Sur pushes coco biodiesel production to alleviate poverty

by Nora CL Molde

BUTUAN CITY (October 10) -- The provincial government of Surigao del Sur has conceived the idea of establishing a Coco-diesel Production (Coco Methyl Ester Production) to address the oil shortage in the country and in support to the efforts of the Arroyo administration in realizing its ten-point legacy program to alleviate the living condition of the Filipino people.

The Coco-diesel Production will become a continuing self-help project of the province believed to uplift the living condition of the Surigaonons. It will also provide job, generates additional income and preserve environment through reduction of sulfur and carbon dioxide.

The main beneficiaries of the project are the coconut producers in the province which also include the owners of motor vehicles fueled by diesel who will soon enjoy low maintenance cast, higher mileage and fuel efficiency from using coco bio-diesel.

The total project cost is estimated to reach P3,070,850.00 and has been deliberated and endorsed by the RDC-EDC during its committee meeting last August 24. (PIA-13) [top]
