Optimism marks 100th foundation day of Kawayan in Biliran
Tacloban City (October 11) -- The Municipality of Kawayan, Biliran under the leadership of Mayor Rodolfo J. Espina, Sr., marked its 100th Founding Year Anniversary on October 10, with a series of significant activities which manifest the local government's optimism and enthusiasm for a better future.
The Centennial Anniversary of the Municipality is made more significant with President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's State of the Nation pronouncement including the port of Kawayan as part of the RORO Nautical Highway which will shorten the travel time from Mindanao to Luzon and from Luzon to Mindanao.
As the link to Luzon, Kawayan is expected to become a bustling and progressive municipality. Known for its Masagongsong Resort where the swimming pool is free-flowing with spring water, Mayor Espina is optimistic that the opening of the Philippine nautical Highway, the tourism industry of the municipality will also improve. This will surely transform Kawayan from the fifth class municipality it is today to a third or even first class municipality.
The One-Stop Shop and Livelihood and Skills Training which highlighted the celebration is a manifestation of the local leadership's sensitivity to the needs of the citizenry.
The One-Stop Shop which was strategically located at the town plaza was participated in by various national line agencies which offered their services to the people of Kawayan.
Among the services at the One Stop Shop are the Animal Health Mission conducted by the Department of Agriculture and the Medical and Dental Mission of the Department of Health.
In line with the local and provincial government's thrust of making Kawayan and the whole province of Biliran as a food basket, Governor Rogelio Espina and the Department of Agriculture distributed farm inputs which include organic fertilizer, seedlings like mangoes, lanzones, rambutan and jackfruit.
Mayor Espina turned over the Burabod Fish Sanctuary to the Burabod Fisherman's Cooperative through its president Gerry Turinga while certificates of animal dispersal and land titles were given to the respective beneficiaries.
