PIA Press Release

PNP Iligan welcomes new commander

Iligan City (11 October) -- "Under my watch, I will ensure that crime prevention, control and suppression or pro-active policing approach shall be my priority focus and concern in addressing criminality rather than being reactive," declared Police Senior Superintendent Virgilio Taguiamon Ranes, who took over as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) on October 9, 2006.

"Every police operation will be people-driven, because the people in the community know best their own needs and priorities. I shall strictly enforce internal discipline within the organization and instill disciplinary action against erring personnel in the field," stressed Ranes after ceremonially receiving command of the city's entire police force from Outgoing City Director Pol. Supt Graciano Jaylo Mijares in a Turn-over Ceremony at the ICPO Headquarters, Poblacion, this city.

Ranes said that as OIC, he will continue to face the challenge of transforming the ICPO into a more capable and credible police force for Iligan City, and be equal to or even surpass his predecessor's achievements making the city a very safe place to live in.

He further said that they will continue to perform their basic mission to enforce the law, prevent and control crimes, maintain peace and order, and ensure public safety and internal security with the active support of the local officials and the community.

Ranes came from Bukidnon and served with the Philippine National Police (PNP) as chief in Dipolog City and was later assigned to the PNP 10 Regional Command, in Cagayan de Oro city.

Present during the turnover was PNP-10 Regional Director Chief Superintendent Florante J. Baguio, who read out the release and designation order.

"During his stint, Mijares has brought prestige to Iligan, making ICPO the best in Region 10, manning the police elements for two years and one month," Baguio said in his speech.

Mijares was awarded a Medalya ng Kagalingan due to his numerous achievements and accomplishments that brought honor not only for himself and the Iligan City Police but also for the entire PNP organization.

Also present was PSSupt. Rogelio C. Nuņeza, chief of the PNP-10 Regional Personnel and Human Resource Development Division, who had served as Iligan City PNP director prior to Mijares' appointment.

Meanwhile, Jose Zalsos, chief of staff of Iligan City Mayor Lawrence Cruz, gave a message on behalf of the mayor. Others who witnessed the event were city councilor Dr. Chonilo Ruiz, spouses of top PNP officials and PNP Iligan division chiefs. (PIA-Iligan City) [top]
