PGMA to visit Cebu tomorrow

Cebu City (11 October) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be in Cebu tomorrow for her 12th visit this year as she is invited to deliver the keynote message of the 8th National Convention of the Liga ng mga Barangay.

The President is expected to arrive for her first public engagement at 11:00 a.m. where she will be received at the Cebu City Waterfront Hotel by Liga ng mga Barangay national president James Marty Lim, Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmena and the hotel's general manager Marco Protacio.

Mrs. Arroyo will also witness the awarding of 10 certificates of scholarship under the Ladderized Education Program and the distribution of three checks under the Micro-Finance Program of the Postal Bank. A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Honda Philippines, Technical Education Skills and Development Authority (TESDA) and the Liga ng mga Barangay on the "Mekaniko sa Bawat Barangay" Project will be signed before the President.

Around 2,500 to 3,000 representatives from the municipal, city and provincial Liga chapters nationwide are expected to attend the annual convention with this year's theme "A Blueprint for Change: Towards a System and Culture of Collaboration."

The convention is also part of the Liga's celebration of the 15th anniversary on the Local Government Code.

Her second stop will be at the Provincial Capitol where she will first unveil the marker at the Capitol grounds beside the flagpole to commemorate her historical inauguration and oath taking as President of the Republic on June 30, 2004. Gov. Gwen Garcia, Vice Gov. Greg Sanchez and Korean Electric Power Corp. (Kepco) Philippines chairman and chief executive officer Lee Gil Gu will be there to meet the President upon arrival.

Mrs. Arroyo will then proceed to the Provincial Capitol Social Hall where she will confer the Presidential Award and Citation to Kepco Chairman and CEO Mr. Joon-Ho Han for his significant contributions in the country's energy sector.

The President shall likewise witness the province's conferment of citation to Cemex president Mr. Jaime de Jaro by Gov. Garcia as well as the MOA signing between the Cebu Provincial Government and Kepco Phils. on the province barangay electrification project.

Around 300 guests composed of municipal mayors, vice mayors and other local officials and leaders from the business community will join the President and Gov. Garcia for lunch in celebration of Gov. Garcia's birthday.

At 1:30 p.m., the President will attend the Couple's for Christ - Gawad Kalinga Cebu Congress at Cebu Parklane International Hotel where she will again witness the awarding of Gawad Kalinga partners and heroes. Around 500 members of the Couple's for Christ in Cebu are expected to attend the event.

Arroyo will stay overnight in Cebu and the next day, she will motor to Danao City to inaugurate the P67.7 M city's bus terminal cum public market at 10 a.m. The President will lead in the ribbon cutting and unveiling of the terminal public market project that is constructed in a 10,056 sq. m. lot in Barangay Poblacion.

Danao City Mayor Ramon "Nito" Durano III will give the welcome remarks and in attendance are also 5th Dist. Rep. Ramon Durano VI, other city officials and mayors from the 5th District. After the event, the President will fly back to Manila.
