P2-M cash assistance sought for typhoon victims

Borongan, Eastern Samar (11 October) -- Eastern Samar was not spared by the typhoon "Melinyo" when it hit the province, it wrought an estimated cost of damages to infrastructures, private properties and crops of some 17 million pesos. However, no casualties were reported.
Hardly hit were the municipalities of San Policarpo Maslog, Arteche and Jipapad. Provincial Social Walfare Officer, Gil Rebamontan bared that of the four, San Policarpo suffered most, where 111 houses were totally damaged and 1,001 houses were partially damaged. A total of 2,012 families were affected by the calamity in 97 barangays.
This prompted Rebamontan to request for cash assistance from the provincial government in the amount of P2,234,000 for the emergency shelter of the most affected families. Per DSWD central office guidelines, emergency shelter assistance was pegged at P1,500.00 and P1,000 for those whose houses were totally damaged and partially damaged respectively.
