San Fernando City, La Union (12 October) -- Calling surfing enthusiasts and those who want to learn surfing. The Province of La Union, the Municipality of San Juan and the Department of Tourism (DOT) invite you to the "La Union Surfing Break 2006" on October 28-30, at the Urbiztondo Beach, San Juan, La Union.
A first of its kind in the province, the event will be highlighted with a free 3-day and 3-session SURF CAMP course for first-timers and intermediate surfers; Artificial Rock Climbing; Ultimate Frisbee Clinics and local professional surfing competition on the last day. Daily, from sunset to midnight beach parties and jamming with the local bands will be held which will include a battle of the bands on the second night. An Octoberfest beach party featuring a Manila-based band will cap the event on October 30.
The surfing event, according to DOT - Region I Director Martin S. Valera is intended to promote La Union as a premier surfing destination in Northern Luzon. It is also envisioned to project the province as an ideal destination for tourists and students during their school breaks to learn and develop the passion of surfing.
La Union is popular for its beautiful beaches to locals and tourists but not for its world-class wave suitable for surfing.
As a surfing destination, La Union has an edge over the known surfing areas as Siargao, Samar and Baler in Aurora Province where its windy, rainy and cold especially during the surfing months of November to February. Whereas in La Union the climate is tropical and thus, always conducive for surfing. The province is also nearest Manila among the surfing areas of the country. To top it all, the waves in the Urbiztondo Beach are just near the shore and suitable for all surfers even beginners or grommets.
A registration fee of Php 200.00 inclusive of event-shirt will be collected to defray the event's expenses.
