PGMA instructs DOE to look into electricity price manipulation

Manila (12 October) -- In the light of the alleged surging soon of electric power price due to price manipulation, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has instructed the energy department (DOE) and other government agencies concerned to look into the issue and ensure that consumers will not be taken advantage of.

The Chief Executive's move was echoed by Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman Ignacio Bunye in a regular media briefing at Malacaņang.

Bunye said "reports of price manipulation are unacceptable and shout not go unpunished if culpabilities are established."

He made it clear that for the benefit of the Filipino people, the Arroyo government will continue to find ways to stabilize the power rates and ensure the protection of consumers, even as the present leadership map out preemptive measures against shortages or brownouts in the future.
