Culture, products showcase at West Visayas tourism event

Roxas City (12 October) -- Capiz will showcase its culture, locally made products and tourist destinations at the Western Visayas Regional Tourism Assembly, otherwise known as the regional version of WOW Philippines, which will be held Oct. 23-29 in Iloilo City, according to Provincial Tourism Officer Alfonso Bediones, Jr.

Bediones said the province will put up a cultural show dubbed “O Capiz” on Capiz Day on Oct. 28 featuring presentations the towns of Sigma, Tapaz and Pilar. Cultural expert Al Tesoro of Dagway Sigmahanon is the overall coordinator of the provincial offering.

A day prior to this, the province will join other provinces of Western Visayas at the parade of festivals and Western Visayas Festival Queen Pageant. The parade will pass through the major thoroughfares of the host city. Bediones said this would be an opportunity for Capiceño culture to be witnessed by the Ilonggos and visitors who will flock to the regional center to witness the week-long festival.

The Capiz parade will feature the Sinaot Festival cultural group of Pres. Roxas town which will portray the Sinadya sa Halaran, Capiz’s major festival which is jointly staged by the province and city every December to showcase time-honored Capiceño culture and the religious fiesta of the city in honor of the Capiceños’ Patroness, Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception.

Secretary Joseph H. Durano of the Department of Tourism will grace the opener of the event at the SM City Activity Center with Antique Gov. Sally Z. Perez, chair of the Western Visayas Regional Development Council, and host Mayor Jerry P. Treñas.

Gov. Vicente Bermejo will lead local officials and the Capiz delegation at the regional tourism event, which is part of the government’s overall tourism program that is anchored on the new Super Regions created by President Arroyo.

The President has designated the Central Philippines Super Region that includes Western Visayas as the country’s tourism belt. (PIA-JSC) [top]
