Tupi, South Cotabato to host 2006 national popquiz

Koronadal City (13 October) -- Tupi town, the fruit basket of South Cotabato will be this year’s host for 2006-2007 National Pop Quiz.
The Bureau of Secondary Education, Department of Education, in coordination with the UNFPA and the Commission on Population (POPCOM) will conduct the Adolescent Reproductive Health Forum and the National Population Quiz (POQUIZ) for 2006-2007 on October 24-26, 2006 in Tupi, South Cotabato, in Region XII. The region was the champion in the 2005 National Pop Quiz after Rojeemarie Braga, who was then a senior student of Tupi National High School won the said National Quiz.
With the theme “Young Pinoy: Youth Empowerment for Health and Development, the contest and forum aims to : sustain awareness of and interest in population issues and matters among in school youth and the general public; convey population and development concepts/messages to students such as responsible parenthood, poverty, adolescent reproductive health, rights, gender and development and promote values supportive and development education among in-school youth. Sharing promising practices on Adolescent Reproductive Health (ARH) Education and validate the ARH Secondary Teacher;s Toolkit and Peer Educator’s manual are also expected in the forum.
The Adolescent Reproductive Health Forum is scheduled on October 24-25, 2006.
Meanwhile, 17 regional contestants, who are all Fourth Year High School students of public and private schools as well as laboratory schools of state colleges and universities nationwide are expected to register at the venue on October 24, 2006 to compete for the 2006 National Population Quiz.
Contest proper will be conducted on October 26, 2006 with the following content based on the Population Education Core Messages /Key Concepts as follows; Family Life and Responsible Parenthood; Gender and Development;, .Population and Reproductive Health and Population, Environment Resources and Sustainable Development.
The national winner will receive a cash prize of P10, 000.00 and a trophy, while the other contestants (non winners) will receive a cash prize of P2,000 and a plaque of recognition. (PIA 12) [top]
