South Cotabato hosts 7th ATOP national gab
Koronadal City (13 October) -- The province of South Cotabato successfully hosted the 7th National Convention of the Association of the Tourism Officers of the Philippines, Inc. (ATOP) from October 4-6, 2006, in this city.
With its theme “Turismo: Kabalikat sa Pag-unlad”, a record 364 delegates from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao which include Mayors, Vice-Mayors, City and Municipal Councilors as well as Provincial Board members gathered during the 3-day convention to hear their President’s Report and discussed inputs from two (2) convention speakers, elect their new set of officers and toured the scenic Lake Sebu.
Delegations and deserving tourism officers were likewise awarded for their Best Tourism Practices.
Governor Daisy P. Avance Fuentes who was the keynote Speaker during the opening ceremony challenged the tourism officers to give their best as career officers especially in this age of devolution.
“In the devolution era, it is us that will make our place a tourist haven. It is us, our governors, our mayors with the guidance of the tourism officer that will work hard to preserve what is left of the natural beauty of our places and to restore what can be restored, and to develop”, Fuentes further added.
A testimonial plaque of appreciation was given to Governor Fuentes at Danilo Supe, Provincial Planning & Development Coordinator as Convention Chair.
Koronadal City Mayor Fernando Q. Miguel formally welcomed the delegates during the said convention.
Dea I. Que, outgoing ATOP national President formally declared open the 7th ATOP National Convention by banging a “T’boli gong” at the South Cotabato Gymnasium & Cultural Center.
The South Cotabato Performing Arts also entertained the delegates with a series of cultural presentation. (FCS/PIA 12) [top]
