Cagayan de Oro City (14 October) -- The Administration maintains keen alertness but remains calm in the face of the renewed bombings as government assistance is now being extended to the victims and their families.
It also continues to call on the Senate to prioritize the passage of the anti-terror bill so that our security forces will be given more teeth and a better fighting chance in dealing with the remaining terror cells in the country.
“Amidst all these threats, we must urge our lawmakers to pass the bill now so that lives will not be put to risk and wasted in the hands of the terrorists,” Bukidnon Governor Jose Maria R. Zubiri Chairperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC), region 10, said.
Meanwhile, RPOC-10, has passed a resolution recommending to Pres. Arroyo the holding of the 2007 Palarong Pambansa at the Mindanao Civic Center (MCC) in Tubod, Lanao del Norte.
During its recent meeting at Max Rest., Cagayan de Oro City, presided by Vice -Chairperson, P/Chief Supt. Florante J. Baguio, Regional Director of the Philippine National Police, RPOC-10 took cognizant of Lanao del Norte’s intention to host this prestigious national sports event in calendar year 2007 as a vehicle for peace and solidarity among Christians and Muslims.
An annual sports event managed by the Dept. of Education (DepEd), Palarong Pambansa is aimed not only at promoting national integration and solidarity but also at propagating the vital role of sports in nation building as well as promoting the appreciation of our cultural heritage.
“Aside from Lanao del Norte now enjoying a peaceful and orderly environment, our province has a lot more to offer in terms of sports facilities that meet the international standards,” Gov Imelda Quibranza-Dimaporo, stressed.
Dimaporo also said the holding of the 2007 Palarong Pambasa in the province will be a great relief to the national government as it would no longer spend for the construction of sports facilities considering the existence of a modern sports complex like the MCC.
The event is held in different venues of the country with the local government units and the offices of the regional/ provincial and city schools divisions of the DepEd as hosts. (PIA 10) [top]
