Palace declares Oct. 24 as holiday to observe Ramadhan

Cagayan de Oro City (14 October) -- Malacañang has issued Proclamation No. 1155, declaring Tuesday, October 24, 2006 as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr, better known as the Feast of Ramadhan.

This year’s month of Ramadhan, which started September 22, culminates on October 23 or 24, subject to the sighting of the moon on October 22. Eid’l Fitr is then celebrated by the Muslim World for three days after the end of the month of fasting, and has been determined to fall on October 24.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo issued the proclamation to promote cultural understanding and to bring the religious significance of the feast to the fore of national consciousness. (PIA-10) [top]
