Manila fashion designers set Washington exhibit on Oct. 17-20

Washington, D.C. (15 October) -- The Philippine Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) will be holding its annual Manila F.A.M.E. International exhibition from 17 to 20 October 2006.

The exhibit will showcase the creations of Manila's up and coming designers in fashion and fashion accessories, fine jewelries, home furnishings, holiday décor, and varied gifts, utilizing a mix of traditional designs with a contemporary twist. Once touted as the "Milan of Asia", the Manila F.A.M.E. International Exhibit, which started some two decades ago, now produces wares, though an amalgamation of western and eastern influences, that is decidedly Filipino, which reflects the Philippines' culture and history.

Foreign retail and wholesale buyers will be afforded the opportunity to see that the products of Manila's best and brightest designers are at par with the rest of the world and evoke new ways of experiencing life. Using indigenous natural and renewable materials and modern technology and applications to craft works of art that is distinctly Filipino, shows the Filipino's ability to compete with their counterparts from around the globe.

Manila F.A.M.E. International will give foreign buyers a look into a unique merchandising concept that allows them to view products by group, exciting themes, and fascinating ideas, all in one general area - the scenic and accessible CCP Complex. A Marketplace for Home Ideas Hall will feature: arts and crafts; bed, bath and linen; gifts; houseware and home décor; kitchen and tableware; lamps, lighting fixtures and votives; furniture and furnishings; garden accessories and articles. A Christmas Village will display: Christmas and other holiday décor; stationery and desk accessories; and toys and games. The Fashion Hall will exhibit: costume jewelry; fine jewelry and leathergoods.

A Philippine Raw Materials Showcase, in partnership with the Product Development and Design Center of the Philippines and the Forest Products Research and Development Institute of the Philippines Department of Science and Technology, will afford foreign buyers to see innovations in colors, textures, techniques and applications for bamboo, coconut and Manila palm that may be used by designers and manufacturers as alternative materials for products.

Come and visit Manila and participate in a buying mission offering innovative and contemporary designs for the home and your way of life. Registered guests will be entitled to as much as 50% discounts from Manila F.A.M.E. partner hotels, complimentary taxi service during the exhibit proper (17-19 October 2006), exclusive use of a Buyer's Lounge, and a Secretariat Counter will be available to assist buyers with almost any need. A Welcome Reception Team will also be available upon your arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport to provide buyers with information on the exhibit and the Philippines. In addition, CITEM and the organizers of the Manila F.A.M.E. International Exhibit have ensured that buyers will also enjoy Manila's night-life. On 18 October, Mabuhay Night will transport buyers to a sultry evening of Latin sound, Manila style, with salsa, meringue, rhumba, cha-cha, and the mambo.
