"Stand Up" and support UN's campaign vs poverty, Popcom says
Tacloban City (October 15) -- All the partner agencies and all the stakeholders are enjoined to support the United Nations Campaign Against Poverty which is entitled as "Stand Up Against Poverty, Stand Up for the Millennium Development Goals."
Population Commission Region 8 Director Susan B. Tejada said that the Philippine's adaptation to the theme is "Tumayo Tayo, Labanan ang Kahirapan, Tuparin ang MDGs."
Tumayo Tayo is an exciting and innovative global challenge of the United Nations Millennium Campaign which will attempt to set an official Guinness World Record for the most number of people ever to Stand Up Against Poverty on October 15-16, 2006.
It is a mobilization initiative designed toi coincide with global mobilizastion around the International Day of Povery Eradication and the White Band Day of the Global Call to Action Against Poverty.
Director Tejada said that the campaign aims to raise awareness of the Millennium Development Goals and to publicly demonstrate the growing global support for the achievement of the goals.
In the Philippines , Director Tejada informed, the goal is to have at least One Million Filipinos stand up and be counted. Simultaneous events will be organized nationwide and enrolled to adopt the common logo, slogan and Tumayo Tayo moment.
Director Tejada is enjoining all stakeholders to show full support to this campaign by ensuring that the Tumayo Tayo moment is observed in their respective offices during the Flag Ceremony on October 16, 2006.
She also enjoins the stakeholders to include the Tumayo Tayo Pledge and account for the number of people who stood up and joined in the pledge. (PIA 8) [top]
