Arroyo set to inaugurate multi-million projects in Calbayog City

Tacloban City (October 15) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is scheduled to inaugurate Monday (October 16) hundreds of millions worth of finished and ongoing projects in Calbayog City, as well as meet with the governors of the Samar provinces.

She is scheduled to meet with the officials of the Samar Provinces in a close door meeting at the Departure Area of the Calbayog Airport. The meeting will also be attended by some agency secretaries and some regional agency heads, Mayor Mel Senen Sarmiento of Calbayog said. Governor Mila Tan of Samar, Governor Raul Daza of Northern Samar and Governor Ben Evardone of Eastern Samar are expected to attend the same meeting, too.

The President is expected to arrive in Calbayog at about 10:00 o'clock in the morning coming from Cebu. Expected to be with her are Presidential Adviser for Political Affairs Secretary Gabriel Claudio, who is from Samar and who is the CORD coordinator for Eastern Visayas, DPWH Secretary Hermogenes Ebdane and Congressman Marcelino Libanan, among others.

President Arroyo is expected to pass by the Agro Industrial Fair which features the best agricultural products of Calbayog including the smoke fish (tinapa) which is the OTOP of the City, Mayor Sarmiento added. Indeed, the people of Calbayog has something to be proud of in terms of agriculture having been adjudged as Gawad Saka Awardee for this year.

Upon reaching the TTMIST Gymnasium which itself is a P5-Million project of the President, the President will unveil the finished and ongoing projects in the City of Calbayog which have been captured in tarpaulins. Among the projects are the P643 Million Calbayog-Catarman Road Improvement Project which is about 80.88 percent completed, the P19 Million Calbayog Bridge completed under the President's Bridge Program, the Sakay Na Bus System for the School Children in response to the President's program to increase the Retention Rate, the OFW Operated Botika ng Barangay, the Tindahan Natin with targeted 42 outlets in Calbayog City which will make available rice and noodles at a price affordable to the disadvantaged sector and the Informal Sector Housing Project.

The President will have lunch with the officials and visitors before she leaves for Manila to attend to her other important engagements. (PIA-8) [top]
