TABUK, Kalinga (16 October) -- More than P2.5 million worth of infrastructure projects under the Early Childhood Care & Development (ECCD) program in the province are nearing completion.
According to its Program Coordinator Salvacion Babate, the funds under the Civil Works and Supplemental Feeding (CWSF) component of ECCD was distributed last year to the eight towns of the province. This is intended for the repair and rehabilitation of barangay health stations and day care centers.
The ECCD which was launched in Kalinga in 2004 is among the social programs of government in providing answers to social needs, particularly in far flung areas.
She said the funding for the projects was released in two tranches. The first release was in October 2005, the second was last January.
Babate expressed appreciation to the municipalities of Lubuagan and Pasil, who started the work last year even before the first tranche was released. Based on ocular inspections conducted, only these two town have fully completed their projects.
Works in the six other municipalities are now 80% completed and are expected to be fully completed within the year.
There is delay in the work because of intermittent weather and also little problems in the transport of materials, she explained.
The total ECCD fund for the three- year program in Kalinga is P20.625M. Added to it are the annual contributions from the Council for Welfare of Children and provincial government in the amount P5.4M and P1.375, respectively. (PIA-Kalinga) [top]
