CPP-NPA commit human rights violations

Davao City (17 October) -- The recent bombings perpetrated by terrorists and killings by the Communist Terrorists (CTs) of AFP and PNP personnel as well as civilians showed human rights violation to its fullest. Many people have been affected by their dire doings. Most of them are suffering and even lost their lives and property to include innocent lives of children due to their evil acts that only brought chaos and havoc. Affected families have been internally displaced and cannot restore their once normal lives.

The CPP/NPAs and other threat groups have been restless in spreading fear in the minds of the people who have stood against them or refused to give in to their terroristic activities. Many vital installations and establishments have been damaged and hampered. The normal operations of businesses and other economic entities are disrupted.

The self-proclaimed champion of the masses cannot deny that all those pronouncements are just for show but the reality remains that consideration for human rights is never and will never be a concern of the CPP/NPA in their pursuit to overthrow whatever government is in power.

The most recent violation of human rights committed by the CT's happened last 11 October 2006 when ten (10) CT members, led by a certain Commander Tiyoy (TN: Leo Hernane) abducted one Jefrey Basaca of Bgy. Tagdangua, Pantukan, Comval Province. Initial investigation disclosed that the victim was forced by the CT's into a white Van and headed towards Tagum City.

Other violations of human rights committed by the CPP/NPA for the third quarter of this year are as follows:

* On September 18 2006, One Sgt Ismael Carriaga y Richa, 35 years old, married, PA member based at 1001st Bde, PA and a resident of Purok 5, Barangay Mainit, Nabunturan, Comval Province was shot to death by four (4) unidentified suspects believed to be members of CPP/NPA. Initial investigation revealed that while the victim, together with his brother Marlon Carriaga and Carlito Cabalog was talking outside his brother's residence, four (4) unidentified persons who were suspected to be members of the CT's suddenly appeared, came closer to them and without apparent reason drew their respective handguns and shot the victim to death. His brother Marlon was hit on his leg while Carlito was slightly hit on his right arm. Recovered from the crime scene were thirteen (13) empty shells and one deformed slug for cal.45 pistol.

* On July 8 2006 at the vicinity of the Municipal Gym, Poblacion, New Bataan, Comval Province, suspected members of the CT's shot and killed Cpl Mabison V Harcon and Cpl Sabbha of Delta Coy of 28th IB PA. Initial investigation revealed that while the victims were conducting area security and were posted at the entrance of said establishment during the Acquaintance Party of New Bataan Technical College they were shot by three unidentified CT members. After which, the perpetrators carted away the two (2) M16 issued rifles, bandoliers loaded with ammunitions and magazines of the victims and fled towards an unknown direction.

* On July 10 2006, one SPO2 Elmer Obre was shot near the DENR Sub-Office at Corner Bgy Dawan, Mati, Davao Oriental. Initial investigation disclosed that while the victim was assisting DENR personnel, an unidentified person approached him and asked his assistance to hire a motorcycle bound for New Visayas. When SPO2 Obre called the attention of the motorcycle's driver, another two (2) companions of the said unidentified person approached SPO2 Obre and shot him for several times hitting his head and body. SPO2 Obre managed to retaliate by firing his issued M16 rifle but was later over powered by the suspects, which caused his instantaneous death. His issued M16 rifle and his cal .45 pistol were taken away by the suspects who immediately escaped on board a motorcycle bound for Bgy Libudon, Mati, Davao Oriental.

* On July 26, 2006, Bgy Kagawad Joselito Salazar was shot dead at Purok 3, Bgy Linda, Nabunturan, Comval Province by CT members. Initial report disclosed that while the victim was in his house preparing food for breakfast, he was suddenly approached by the three (3) unidentified CT members and was shot several times hitting his head twice that caused his instant death. Further investigation disclosed that the killing of Brgy Kagawad Joselito Salazar was perpetrated by the dreaded sparrow unit of the CPP/NPA under Alias Gary of Front Committee 33 operating in AOR as the victim was the chairman of CVO, Peace and Order Council and active in the anti-insurgency campaign of Brgy Linda, Nabunturan, Comval Province.
