Mining firm grants 100 scholarships to NVizcaya students
KASIBU, Nueva Vizcaya (17 October) -- Australian mining firm Australasian-Philippines Mining Inc. (APMI) recently opened 100 scholarship grants to poor but deserving students with the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) as part of its commitment in helping the national government in providing indigent youths of quality education.
Engr. Arnel Arrojo, APMI project director said they have recently forged a memorandum of agreement with the NVSU headed by president Marilou Gilo-Abon for the application of the 25 scholarship slots with a budget of P250,000 which will cover their tuition fees until their graduation.
The P250,000 shall be handled by the NVSU as a trust fund for the scholars. The courses offered for the scholars are forestry, agriculture and science.
Arrojo said the 25 scholarship slots represent only the first batch for the first semester. "Other scholarship slots will be again offered on the second semester," he said.
Arrojo said the project is part of their contribution in nation building through education.
APMI has an existing mining exploration project for the extraction of gold and copper deposits in barangay Didipio here which is located between the boundary of Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino provinces.
The national government is expected to generate at least P30 billion from the 15-year operation of the project.
The mining firm also assisted in the construction of farm-to-market roads, provision of livelihood projects and other social development initiatives designed to uplift the plight of the affected villagers. (PIA-NVizcaya) [top]
