by MG Edale

ALICIA, Isabela (17 October) -- In aiming to be part of the global Information Society and to have affordable access to a wide variety of services and opportunities using Information and Communication Technology (ICT), this town opened last week its new community E-Community Center located at the heart of the town's Municipal Hall.

Mayor Napoleon S. Dy led the opening and inauguration of the center together with some local and national government agency officials and employees. The Chief Executive said that LGU-Alicia is lucky being chosen as one of the proponents on the project of National Computer Center here in Cagayan Valley region.

"The center initially has six units to use in computer and internet works. It is expected that next year more units will be provided by donor agencies and the LGU," Mayor Dy said.

Municipal Planning and Development Office chief and concurrent Manager of the E-Center Marinela R. Yee said the center will offer services like internet browsing and downloading, computer rental, Voice-Over-Internet-Phone (VOIP), CD burning, desktop publishing, scanning, computer tutorial, E-mail, photocopying and other computer works and activities.

Yee said a minimal fee will be collected to those who will utilize the facility that is to cover the expenses of electricity used in computer operation.

Alicia Information Officer Jose Aquino who is also head the Public Employment Service Office said that the center is essential to Alicia residents who are seeking overseas employment. Aquino said that the foreign employer can directly conduct interview to applicants through internet and that is a big help to residents here. (PIA-Isabela) [top]
