Tawi-Tawi to stand up vs poverty

Zamboanga City (17 October) -- The farthest province in the south, Tawi-Tawi will make its presence felt in the fight against poverty with activities that will raise Tawi-Tawinians' awareness on poverty reduction during the Stand Up Against Poverty campaign in the province.

The Philippine Non-Government Organization on Population, Health and Welfare, Inc. (PNGOC), an umbrella organization of more than 96 other organizations all over the country, together with its media counterparts from DXDC Radyo ng Bayan, DXDG, Radyo Natin-Bongao and Power Myx Tawi-Tawi will spearhead the different activities in the province which includes Comic Strips Making and Slogan Making Contests dubbed as "Tarasul Iban Daman"

Aside from the two major activities, radio plugs on tips how to fight poverty will be aired simultaneously on all 4 media outfits.

The activities will also serve as a celebration for the province in particular, and the region (ARMM) in general, for getting out of the "Club 20" - the 20 poorest provinces in the country, in a recent study.

This activity is in response to the country's adaptation on the fight against poverty dubbed as "Tumayo Tayo: Labanan ang Kahirapan, Tuparin ang Millennium Development Goals". Now, Tawi-Tawi's cry is "Never Again In Club 20, a pledge among its leaders and people to work together and never be part of the 20 poorest provinces in the country again. (PIA ZC) [top]
