PGMA commends informers of attempted Mindanao bombings

Manila (17 October) -- Speaking before a group of businessmen at the 8th CEO Forum of the Semiconductor and Electronics Industries in the Philippines Inc. (SEIPI) held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Makati City, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo thanked the people who helped the authorities thwart some plans to bomb Mindanao recently.

"I commend our people for the vigilance against terror and I would like to make special mention of the informers who tipped off the authorities and foiled some attempted bombings in Mindanao last week."

Thus said President Arroyo while calling for broader alertness in reporting suspicious activities, even as calmness and sobriety mark everyday work and livelihood in the country.

As part of the security measures against threats of terrorism, Malacaņang has already intensified the information gathering of authorities.

"The authorities are on top of the situation but they need the active support of the community to safeguard the perimeters of peace and order," so said the Chief Executive.

Likewise, Barangay security officers, especially in Metro Manila and other key urban areas in the country, were also called to alert as force-multipliers in the implementation of the government's public safety measures.

The President stressed that the fight against terror is a responsibility and a duty of one and all. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
