Domalandan Bridge ready by January

Pangasinan (18 October) -- House Speaker Jose De Venecia Jr. has announced that the new 600-meter long Domalandan bridge is now nearing completion and hopefully, to be inaugurated by President Gloiria Macapagal Arrroyo during the town fiesta of Lingayen January 9 next year.

The Domalandan bridge spans the Limahong channel in Lingayen that empties into the Lingayen Gulf. Is a vital link between the central and western parts of the province as it cuts travel time by about 30 minutes, compared to the old road via Bugallon.

President Arroyo ordered the Department of Public Works and Highways to ensure the continuous release of funds till it is completed.

Al least P640 million has already been released for the project but DPWH Regional Director Fidel Ginez said P114 million more will be needed to ensure the projectís completion by first week of January.

Work on the project began in 2001 using yearly P100 million allocation from the budget of the DPWH, GInez said.

The old bridge was destroyed by a big flood in 1999. (PIA-Pangasinan) [top]
