by A. Lumaque

Roxas City (18 October) -- The municipality of President Roxas, Capiz will be this year’s host to a day-long activities on Oct. 19 in view of the Cooperative Month celebration in the province.

The yearly activity will be a gathering of various cooperatives provincewide to showcase its collective effort in strengthening community welfare and its contribution to the development of domestic trade.

“It will be an educational learning experience as resource speakers have been invited from Metro Manila to provide inputs to the participants,” said former Capiz Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) member Aldwin Cruz-am in a radio interview. He was requested to pitch in by his son and SP member Fritz Cruz-am who is busy in the preparation for the celebration.

Cruz-am added that a trade fair exhibit will also be put up as a venue for different cooperatives to display their respective products.

Recently, Pres. Gloria Arroyo said the administration continues to intensify its poverty relief programs in the countryside through the Cooperative Development Authority’s cooperative thrusts and other pro-poor projects like Botika ng Bayan and Tindahang Bayan, food for work and farm and fishery family extension programs, among others.

Aside from the poverty relief programs, the government also continues its countryside pump-priming vis-à-vis the super regions approach, the promotion of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority’s (TESDA) technical vocational education and the ladderization program, the granting of mainstream scholarship and financial assistance to poor but deserving students, and the augmentation of the limited funds of the 112 state universities and colleges (SUCs).

The provincial cooperative month celebration will be graced by local elected officials and concerned government employees.

The theme of the celebration is “Cooperatives: Making a Real Difference (Bansang Nagkakaisa, May Pusong Kooperatiba).” (PIA) [top]
